Paramour Grange – Beautiful Tudor painted room

My latest blog for Country Life has just gone live – Blog – featuring Paramour Grange in Kent. The house features an array of beautiful historic detailing, most significantly a Tudor painted room from 1603.

The house is believed to date back to the 15th century and was altered dramatically in the late 16th century. Today, the Grade II* listed house retains many original features including a Tudor staircase and inglenook fireplaces, as well as the original timbers from the medieval hall.

The reasons for the painted room are uncertain, but it is strongly believed to be linked with the accession to the throne of James I in 1603.

At the time of the Civil War the painted room was covered over and for the next 250 years remained hidden, only being uncovererd in 1915. During that time Paramour Grange was home to a number of farming families in this quiet corner of Kent.
